Malacca
The 'historical city of Malaysia', colonised by the Portuguese, then the Dutch
East India Company and finally by the British.
The city today has many reminders of the ancient trading past in its historic
buildings. Now a sleepy backwater, Malacca was once a major trading centre at
the heart of the global spice trade evidenced by the fact that the British
exchanged the tiny island of Run, near Malacca, with the Dutch for Manhattan!
